The first free press of information and comics in Italy
In 1997 I had the idea of publishing a free press distributing it in bars, clubs and shops in the city of Mantua and in the various municipalities of the province. The magazine was basically a guide to venues and musical events in the Mantua area, but I added the comics I drew and two pages dedicated to authors who wanted to send in their story published with an introductory article. I presented the project to some friends who had an advertising agency, Computer Service in Mantua. The project was liked and I enthusiastically started the first drafts to give an impactful graphic image to my creation.
Nel 1997 mi venne l’idea di pubblicare un free press distribuendolo nei bar, locali e negozi nella città di Mantova e nei diversi comuni della provincia. Il magazine era praticamente una guida ai locali e agli eventi musicali del mantovano, ma vi aggiunsi i fumetti che disegnavo e due pagine dedicate agli autori che volevano inviare una loro storia pubblicata con un articolo di presentazione. Presentai il progetto ad alcuni amici che avevano un agenzia pubblicitaria, la Computer Service di Mantova. Il progetto piacque e iniziai con entusiasmo le prime bozze per dare un immagine grafica d’impatto alla mia creazione.
The first issue was distributed in December 1997 and contained the first strips of the Stories of Nature with Johnny the Poplar and the magical forest created with the collaboration of Alfredo Boschini, aka Boscho who currently draws stories of the legendary Alan Ford. Later I published the drafts of the various covers of Strips Magazine.
Il primo numero venne distribuito nel dicembre del 1997 e conteneva le prime strips delle Storie della Natura con Johnny il Pioppo e la magica foresta realizzate con la collaborazione di Alfredo Boschini, in arte Boscho che attualmente disegna storie del mitico Alan Ford. In seguito ho pubblicato le bozze delle varie copertine di Strips Magazine.
The monthly was a great success, the advertisers’ budget was able to cover all expenses and above all people liked it. The work that I had imposed on myself was really demanding, from the search for sponsors, to the study of the graphics for the various advertising boxes of the advertisers that I created as comic cartoons and to the creation of the comics to be published, but I liked all this and I was able to publish my stories and make my art.
Il mensile ebbe un ottimo successo, il budget degli inserzionisti pubblicitari riusciva a coprire tutte le spese e soprattutto alle persone piaceva. Il lavoro che mi ero imposto era veramente impegnativo, dalla ricerca degli sponsor, allo studio della grafica per i vari box pubblicitari degli inserzionisti che realizzavo come vignette a fumetti e alla realizzazione dei fumetti da pubblicare, ma tutto questo mi piaceva e potevo pubblicare le mie storie e realizzare la mia arte.
An article in the Gazzetta di Mantova helped me a lot in launching the magazine and then comics from some readers began to arrive and the idea of giving space to the art of those who didn’t do it by profession began to take hold. In the meantime, an agency in Modena took over the management of the magazine in the Modena area and the associated editions started.
Un articolo sulla Gazzetta di Mantova mi aiutò molto nel lancio della rivista e successivamente iniziarono ad arrivare i fumetti di alcuni lettori e iniziò a prendere piede l’idea di dare spazio all’arte di chi non lo fa di professione. Nel frattempo un agenzia di Modena si prese l’incarico di gestire la rivista nel Modenese e partirono le edizioni abbinate.
I also have to thank Bonvi, a great Italian comic book author who sadly passed away due to an accident. It was thanks to him that Stories of Nature took shape and appeared on television in 1994, and thanks to this little fame my pseudonym became famous.
Devo ringraziare anche Bonvi, un grande autore di fumetti italiano che purtroppo scomparve a causa di un incidente. Fu grazie a lui che presero corpo le Storie della Natura e che comparvero in televisione nel 1994, e grazie a questa piccola fama il mio pseudonimo divenne famoso.
